Hazel Gilley Lohr, age 90, of Macclenny, Florida, peacefully passed away on February 21, 2017 surrounded by her family after a brief illness. Hazel was born on January 10, 1927 in Panama City, Florida. She resided in Grand Ridge as a child and later moved to Jacksonville, Florida with her family. Hazel made an early career of selling silverware for the Prestige Silver Co. where she won many awards and accolades for outstanding sales achievements. Later, she became the Co-founder of the Jacksonville Cash Register Co. along with her husband C.W. Lohr. She was a member of the Duval County Republican Executive Committee, where she served as a volunteer and Precinct Captain. Hazel was an original member of the First Foursquare Church of Jacksonville. Over the years, she volunteered at for many outreach projects to help the needy and infirm. She spent time at a local assisted living facility with residents helping them with activities. Hazel also served as a wedding planner and had a passion for creating lovely floral arrangements for weddings and other special occasions. Most of all, she loved her family and friends, as she devoted her life to helping them with anything that she could.
Hazel is predeceased by her husband of 66 years, C.W. Lohr; her son Robert Lohr; her parents, Roy and Bertha Gilley; and her brother, Floyd (Betty) Gilley. She is survived by her children Roy Lohr of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Sandra Lohr Cliett of Jacksonville, Florida, Cathy Froitzheim (Paul) of Macclenny, Florida, and John (Carol) Lohr of Macclenny, Florida; and her sister, Mildred (Mike) Varenholt of Jacksonville, Florida. Hazel was blessed with 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, as well as many nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, February 26, 2017, at 3:00 p.m. at Town and Country Funeral Home. Internment will follow at Riverside Memorial Park. A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
