

Mrs. Helen Hancock Smith, 90, passed away peacefully in Jacksonville, FL on February 24, 2012. She was born January 18, 1922 in Sylvester, GA, daughter of the late Rosa Lena Ricks and G.V. Ricks. She grew up in Sylvester and moved to Jacksonville in the 1940's. She was married to the late Warren Hancock and widowed in 1958. She remarried the late Roddy Smith in 1967. She retired from Baptist Hospital in Jacksonville after nearly 30 years as a nurse. She lived and raised her family in Jacksonville and was a long time member of the Riverside Park Methodist Church. She was a member of the NARFE, an organization for active and retired federal employees. Surviving family members are her son Rick Hancock and daughter-in-law Jane of Gatlinburg, TN, her daughter Gloria Mitchell and son-in-law Frank of Roswell, GA, and her daughter Gail Seidell and son-in-law Fred of Marietta, GA. Other family members include sister Viola Ricks Stanford of Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren Warren Hancock of Vail, CO, Tracy De La Torre and husband Fermin of Leicester NC, Betsy Hirons and husband Parker of Tampa, FL, Katherine Knowles and husband Kent of Cumming GA, Nick Seidell and wife Cristine of Marietta, GA, Stefanie Seidell and Jason Venable of Marietta, GA, Janice Overbeck and husband Gunar of Kennesaw, GA; great-grandchildren Wyatt Hancock of Leicester, NC, Deane Hirons of Tampa, FL, Jane Knowles of Cumming, GA, Emily and
Aiden Seidell of Marietta, GA, Jonah Venable of Marietta, GA, Chandley Overbeck of Kennesaw, GA; daughter in-law Mary Hancock of Leicester, NC; step-son Royce Smith and wife Maria of Valdese, NC, and great-step son Corey Smith of Valdese, NC. Services will be held at Hardge-Giddens Town and Country Funeral Home on Friday March 2, 2012. A visitation will take place at 10:00 am with the funeral service at 11:00 am. The funeral home is located at 7242 Normandy Boulevard in Jacksonville, FL 32205. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Riverside Park Methodist Church at 819 Park Street, Jacksonville FL 32209. The Town and Country funeral home is in charge of arrangements.
