Obituary of Ian David Desousa
Ian David DeSousa, age 46, passed away peacefully in his home in Jacksonville, Florida on September 11th, 2022, after a courageous battle with cancer. Ian was an incredible and dedicated father, husband, brother, son, and friend to many. Ian has inspired many and walked his path of life with intentional gratitude and kindness. Ian genuinely enjoyed his work as a project manager for St. John advertising agency and appreciated the care and generosity of his friends and colleagues. Formerly, Ian was co-executive producer for the award-winning public radio show, State of the Re:Union, with his best friend, Al Letson. Ian was a man of many interests and talents, and never lost his sense of wonder. He practiced traditional Japanese swordsmanship, iaido, throughout his battle with cancer. Ian was an artist and sculptor, an avid reader, and former bookstore employee. Ian enjoyed music, traveling, cooking, and mostly spending time with his family and son, going on “adventures”, near or far. Ian’s favorite superhero, The Green Lantern, has become a symbol of Ian’s determination and strength to his loved ones, representing willpower and imagination. Ian is survived by his wife Kelly DeSousa and son Estlin DeSousa of Jacksonville, FL, father David DeSousa of Hazelhurst, GA, sister Leia DeSousa of New York, NY, and devoted friend, Al Letson of Jacksonville, FL. Ian admired the creativity and strength of his mother, Libbie DeSousa, of Sarnia, Ontario, Canada, who passed away in 2002 from cancer. Ian’s Celebration of Life services will be postponed until the family can all gather. Memorial service announcements will be made via the DeSousa Lanterns on Lotsa Helping Hands.
