Jack honorably served in the United States Navy and completed two tours in Vietnam. He worked for Hewlett-Packard/Philips Medical as a software engineer for 28 years before retiring in 2005.
He enjoyed contract bridge and was known for his skill at the elite level. He was an active member of the Jacksonville School of Bridge and willingly and patiently gave his time to mentor new players, fostering their knowledge and love of the game.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Nancy Jill Carter; and Crystal Bryant Carter. He is survived by his wife, Linda Carter; his sons, Bradley C. Carter and Travis L. Carter (Lindsey); his stepdaughters, Emily Brown and Kaytee Kachurak; and his stepson, Nathaniel DeShong. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
His strong morals and values guided his children, stepchildren, and grandchildren and will continue to shape their futures in more ways than they realize.
