

James was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Mahlon Frank Coker and Fred Smith, as well as his grandmother, Patsy Strother Smith.
He is survived by his high school sweetheart and loving wife, Wanda Gail Coker, and their three cherished boys: Caleb James Coker, Jonathan Mason Coker, and Jacob William Coker. James also leaves behind his parents, Rebecca Smith and Carl Coker, and his grandmother, Sandra Coker. He will also be remembered fondly by his sisters, Kara Peppers and Kelly Nolan, and his nieces, cousins and Brother-In-Laws with which always held a special place in his heart.
James was a multifaceted individual, a musician, preacher, avid Jags and Gator fan, and a compassionate soul who dedicated his life to helping those in need. Despite his own struggles, he remained a beacon of support, always willing to lend an ear and offer counsel. His vast knowledge, coupled with his unwavering compassion, made him a beloved figure among those who knew and loved him. James’s dry, sarcastic humor added a unique touch to his interactions, leaving a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be remembered as the most knowledgeable therapist and preacher to those who cherished his presence.
A memorial for James will be held at Hardage-Gidden’s Riverside Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd. Jacksonville, FL 32205 on Monday, March 2, 2026 with public visitation beginning at 11am and graveside service at 1pm. A reception will immediately follow. He will be forever loved and missed.
A private and informal celebration of life will be held at a later date. Details will be shared separately
