Jim was born in Nashville, Tennessee on February 13, 1925. He graduated from Father
Ryan High School in 1942. He continued his education graduating from Vanderbilt University
with a BA degree in 1945. In 1948 Jim became Doctor Conners when he graduated from
Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. During the next five years Dr. Jim Conners
completed his Internship, three Resident programs, served with The US Navy at Bethesda Naval
Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland and on The USS Consolation stationed behind the front lines
during the Korean War. In 1957 private citizen Dr. Conners joined the orthopedic practice of
Paul Hutchins, M. D. in Jacksonville, Florida. After a couple of years as a partner, he
established his solo practice at St. Vincent’s Hospital Riverside where he performed the first
total hip in Jacksonville. He retired in 1997.
Doctor Conners added “Jackie” to his name in 1967 when he married Jacolynn (Jackie)
Tischer and henceforth was known as Dr. Conners and Jackie. He is “Dad” to their son, James
Joseph Conners, Jr. (J.J.) and their daughter (In-Law) Sarah Callahan Conners. He has three
granddaughters, Lauren (19), Maria (16) and Anna (14) who renamed him, Gaga. He is Jim to
three sisters-in-law, Mary Ellen Taylor, Gayle Thornton and Pat Craft and their spouses. He is
Uncle Jim to ten nieces and nephews from the Conners family and twelve from the Tischer
family. He fulfilled the role required of each name change with spontaneous adaptability and
enjoyment.
In lieu of flowers. Dr. Conners and Jackie would appreciate requests that Masses be said
for Jim at any Catholic Church, or donations to be made in his name to St. Matthews Catholic
Church, Jacksonville, St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Jacksonville and Our Lady Star of the Sea
Catholic Church, Ponte Vedra Beach.
