Born on November 28th, 1954 to Gaylord and Helen Ray, Jim grew up in Oakland, Ca. After receiving his high school diploma, Jim joined the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, and also fought in operation Desert Storm. After 25 years of service navigating for the USN, he retired as a Master Chief. Following the Navy, he worked at various companies where he could utilize his navigation skills.
Years before his death, Jim often spent his time volunteering for the Northeast Florida Intergroup Services.
He is survived by his loving wife, Avelina Ray; daughter, Amanda Ray; son, James Ray Jr.; four grandsons, Nick, Andre, William and Ethan; sister, Gay Annette Howe; and father, Gaylord Ray.
Visitation will be held Friday, March 29th, 2013 from 6-8pm; service will take place Saturday, March 30th, 2013 at 11 am. Location of his viewing and service will be at Hardage-Giddens Chapel Hills, addressing 850 St. Johns Bluff Rd. N Jacksonville, Fl 32225. All friends and family welcome.
