Janet Lucille Westerman

Janet Newman Mills Westerman, born May 23, 1936 in Moline, IL, passed away on November 5, 2025. She had made her home in Jacksonville, Florida since 1973. She was retired from the State of Florida Education. As a volunteer, she taught English as a second language to military wives and children and served at the Community Hospice Thrift Shop for 20 years. She was an active member in the Roman Catholic Church, and a member of the Philanthropic Educational Organization (PEO).

She is survived by her three daughters: Debra Westerman of Jacksonville, FL; Teresa (Melinda Monti) Westerman of Neptune Beach, FL; and Diane (Bill) Tetsworth of Jacksonville, FL. She was preceded in death by her husband George Westerman and son Bruce Westerman.

Janet was a beloved grandmother to seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her siblings Steve (Georgia) Mills of Pekin, IL; Sue (Lou) Brackett of Fruita, CO; and Vicki Hughes of Ocala, FL. She was preceded in death by her siblings Ronnie Newman and Georgia Kay Mills.

Janet will be remembered with love by her family and all who knew her.

A Celebratory Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Monday, November 10, 2025 at the Hardage-Giddens Chapel Hills Funeral Home, 850 St. Johns Bluff Rd N, Jacksonville, FL. Burial will be in the Chapel Hills Memory Gardens Cemetery following mass.
