

Born on November 17, 1945, in Douglas, Georgia, Jerry was the son of Ivey Chaney and Mary Chaney.
Jerry was married to the love of his life, Cathy Chaney, on January 14, 1984. Together they built a life centered on family, service, and community.
He earned a degree in Fire Science and went on to have a meaningful and dedicated career. Jerry served in the Air Force, worked in Winter Garden, and later became a lieutenant paramedic with the Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department. He also owned and operated a camera store, combining his profession with his love of photography.
Jerry had a deep passion for photography and captured countless special moments, including many weddings. He especially cherished his family and took great pride in his children. In his later years, he enjoyed driving a school bus for field trips, staying connected to his community. He was also a member of the Parrot Heads, a group known for their charitable work and love of fun in natural settings.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Cathy Chaney; his sons, Christopher Chaney and Craig Chaney; his son and daughter-in-law, Johnathan (Ana) Chaney; and his daughter and son-in-law, Abigail (George) Hoyt. He is also survived by his sister, Joan Powell; brothers and sisters John Chaney, Clara Gattis, Lonnie Chaney, Colleen Veldhuis, Wayne Chaney, and Ricky Chaney; and five cherished granddaughters.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Ivey Chaney and Mary Chaney.
Jerry will be remembered for his love of family, his service to others, his creative spirit, and the many lives he touched throughout his years.
Visitation will be held at Riverside Event Pavilion, 1373 Memorial Park Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32205, US, on April 2, 2026, beginning at 11:30 am with the Funeral Service following at 12:30 pm. A Committal Service will be held at Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32218, on April 2, 2026, beginning at 2:30 pm.
