A proud veteran and devoted family man, Eddie lived a life defined by service, passion, and grit.
Eddie honorably served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War and continued his commitment to national defense with the Florida Air National Guard, 125th Fighter Wing. His dedication to service was matched by his love for building hot rods and racing vintage dirt bikes — a true craftsman and thrill-seeker with grease on his hands and adventure in his heart.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Anna L. Calmes; his daughter, Andrea Calmes Smith; his son-in-law, Bradley Smith; and his beloved granddaughter, Aubrey Smith, who brought him immense pride and joy. Several brothers and sisters, and sisters-in-law.
A committal service will be held Friday, May 9, 2025 from 10:00 am to 10:30 am at Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32218, where he will be buried with full military honors.
