I posted some pictures on my Facebook page  showing the youth of Post 137 marching in the Veterans Day Parade. John was always there to help make that possible and the success will had is because of him and his support. John might of passed on but myself and others we never forget  how much he gave to others, He was the Heart and Soul of Post 137.

John Kelley represented the old American Legion where programs were offered to Veterans and youth and America's youth were inculcated with Americanism and Patriotism.  Legionnaire Kelley was program chair for the American Legion's School Medals Awards. when Myra and I first met him. When John was ready to step back from the School Awards program, I volunteered to chair the program. 

With John's tutelage and program knowledge, I was able to expand this program through the 5th District and into Mandarin Post 372 when we transferred into this Post. Later, I discovered that my own forms and information sheets for the School Medals Awards were on the Department's web site. When Myra and I  moved to Kansas, we reintroduced the School Awards programs into our new Post and then throughout the Second District of Kanas.  

I believe that John Kelley has impacted the lives of many more of our school children that he ever realized through his initial involvement in the School Medals Award program 20 years ago.

The memories with Pop are endless. The last 15 years he has loved and accepted me as his own, showed me love like a father would. Ill always remember his stories from growing up, to the war and the adventures with mom in Germany. He loved his family, kids, grand and great grand kids more than anything in this world. He will truly be missed by many. We love you Pop!!

I an sorry to hear of the passing of John Kelley, John was a good man who touched a lot of peoples lives in such a positive way .  In life we come in contact with a lot people, but John was not just your average guy.  John was a good  family man that showed his love in many different ways,  He and was loyal to his friends  and  was always devoted to a  good cause for the community, state and nation.  We will miss him here on earth, but he is now with the Lord, he is at peace and in his place in heaven. We thank  God for John Kelley, we wish there were more like him.

Ed and I love you both dearly and will miss the wonderful stories and music Pop would share with us. 
What dedication and support he showed to so many students through the years of volunteering at Hyde Park and Lake Shore Middle School.
