John Leon

John Barnard Leon, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2024, just days before his 74th birthday. Born on September 6, 1950, John lived a life full of love, dedication, and service to his family and community.

John was the devoted husband of Sandra Paulk Leon, with whom he shared 25 wonderful years of marriage. He is survived by his three children: Patricia, Jack, and Stephanie. He was also the proud grandfather of his cherished granddaughter, Emma, who brought him endless joy. John is also survived by his brother, L. Keith Leon, and his beloved nieces, Maggie Jett and Angie Sweat.

A lifelong resident of Jacksonville, Florida, John was a graduate of Bishop Kenny High School and the University of Florida, where he was a proud member of Delta Tau Delta. His professional career spanned over 30 years with Sawyer Gas and Heritage Propane, where he was known for his dedication, work ethic, and the lasting friendships he formed.

John was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Jacksonville, where his faith guided his life. He was also a respected member of the Southside Businessmen’s Club, Executive Association, and the River City Purveyors, where he built strong relationships and contributed to the betterment of his community. John’s commitment to his neighborhood was evident through his service as the former President of the Sans Souci Neighborhood Association, where he worked tirelessly to improve the community he loved.

A service to celebrate John’s life will be held on his birthday, Friday, September 6, at Hardage-Giddens Riverside Memorial Funeral Home on Normandy Boulevard. Visitation will be from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, with a memorial service from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Those attending the service and visitation are encouraged to wear orange and blue or Florida Gator gameday gear. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his memory to the Alzheimer’s Association or the 2024 Walk to End Alzheimer’s.
