He was born on January 5th, 1945 in the town of New Waterford, on the island of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, where almost everyone is a descendant of immigrants from Scotland. When John Dan was two years old, his family moved to Boston, Massachusetts, where he grew up. He served on active duty in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. In 1970 he moved to Jacksonville, where he was employed as an aircraft machinist at NAS/JAX until his retirement in 2010. John Dan was very proud of his heritage. He was a charter member of Post 131 of the Scottish American Military Society.
John Dan was predeceased by his father, Neil MacEachern, his mother, Mary Sarah, his brother, Neil Gerard, a USMC veteran, his sister, Mary Marguerite, and by two sons, John Dan the 2nd, and Lance Adam. He is survived by his loving wife, Connie Rosemary, his sister, Elaine Pittman, his brother Miles and his sons John, Danny, Patrick and Joey, numerous nieces and nephews, and by grandchildren, Alyssa Todd, Paul Todd, Josie Rock and Triston Crooms.
A Memorial Mass will be Celebrated for John Dan at Christ the King Catholic Church,
