

John L. Mascio, 93, passed away Thursday, October 30, 2014 in St. Vincents Clay County. He was born on October 15, 1921 to Angelo and Rose Mascio and raised in "Little Italy" (South Philly) area of Philadelphia, Pa. John attended Temple University, then was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1942. He proudly served with the Army for four years, most of which was in Marlbourough, England with the 347th M.A.S.H. unit during WWII. He worked for Earle Gear Machine Shop in Philadelphia, Pa for 38 years. John enjoyed watching the Phillies baseball team as well as the Philadelphia Eagles football team. He was a humble man who was proud of his Italian heritage. John retired in 1985, when he and wife Cora moved from Glendora, N.J. and relocated to Jacksonville, Fl. He attended both Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and Mary Queen of Heaven Catholic Church here in Jacksonville. John is preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Cora H. Mascio, one step-son Winston A. Hooley (Judy), two brothers Albert Mascio, Frank Mascio (Florence) and one sister Louise. He is survived by one daughter Moire' Walker, two step-sons George (Toby) Hooley, Theodore (Ted) Hooley, granddaughters Richelle (Chad) Starling, Monica (Todd) Pritchard, nine step-grandchildren as well as one great-grandchild-Dallen Starling. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 20, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be made to the charity of your choice in John's name.
