John McGrotha, 91, of Jacksonville, Florida who is now in the hands of our Almighty God, passed away on Sunday, August 14, 2011. He was born in Shellman, Georgia to John and Bertha McGrotha. He was a U.S. WWII Army Veteran with two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star. He was a member of the Second Armor Division “Hell on Wheels”. He served under General George S. Patton. He was a long time member of the West Park Baptist Church.
He is predeceased by his previous wife Mary G. McGrotha , his parents, sister Pansy Irvin and step-son Richard Shott.
He survived by his loving wife Mary Louise McGrotha, son John Gary McGrotha (Debbie), step-son Donald Shott (Stephanie), grandchildren Amanda Davis (Jacob) and John Brandon, step-grandchildren Karl, Kristina and D.J. Shott, and great-grandchild Piper Davis.
Visitation will be 6:00 – 8:00PM on Wednesday, August 17, 2011.
Funeral service will be 11:00 AM Thursday, August 18, 2011 all located at Hardage-Giddens Town and Country Funeral Home 7242 Normandy Blvd Jacksonville, Florida 32205. Burial will be private.
