He is survived by his wife, Nell Ball Wachtel; his daughters, Lesley Duncan (John) of Washington, DC and Meredith Hines (Ed) of Atlantic Beach, FL; and five grandsons, Jack Hines, William Hines, Charles Hines, Weston Duncan, and Graham Duncan.
A native of Jacksonville, John was a communicant of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church where he served as an usher and a lay reader.
He was predeceased by his parents, Dr. and Mrs. Leo M. Wachtel, Jr. and his brother, L. Michael Wachtel, III.
A memorial service will be held at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church on Thursday, July 21st at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Jacksonville, Florida or Jacksonville Humane Society.
