Mr. Barber was a retired school teacher who taught history at JEB Stuart Jr. High School. He was heavily into genealogy and has the Barber and O’Steen family history traced all the way back to the Vikings. After retiring he enjoyed traveling with his wife Faye Barber. They were married for 67 years.
He was preceded in death by his father John Broward Barber and Jesse May O’Steen. He is survived by his wife Frances Faye Simonton Barber, two sons Jon Kevin Barber and Michael Scott Barber and two grandchildren, Zachary Alexander Barber and Nicholas Christopher Barber.
A visitation for Jon will be held Thursday, February 29, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Hardage-Giddens, Riverside Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32205. A funeral service will occur Thursday, February 29, 2024 at 12:00 PM, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32205. A committal service will occur Thursday, February 29, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Riverside Memorial Park, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32205.
