January 31, 1950 – January 5, 2024
Joseph Noland Mize (73) of Jacksonville, Florida, died unexpectedly on Friday, January 5, 2024 while surrounded by his wife and children. It was at that moment he received his eternal reward and entered into the presence of the Lord. He was born in Topeka, KS and graduated DeSoto High School in DeSoto, Kansas. He spent the last 35 years living in Florida, mostly in Jacksonville.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, William Henry Mize, Sr. and Helen Ida (Hicks) Mize Bellew, as well as three of his siblings - twin brothers Karl Noland Mize and Kirk Warren Mize, and his younger sister, Marjorie May Chowning - and grandson, Jared Samuel Ramsey. In addition to a reunion with his family members in heaven Joe is also rejoicing with his two best friends, Ron Parker and Ron Jeffries. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Beverly Sue Hill Mize; son, Jeff Mize (Laura), and daughters Heather Ramsey (Pete) and Becky Waldron (Mike); grandchildren Elijah Mize (Hope), Melissa Barrera (Oscar), Rebekah Ramsey, Joel Ramsey, Charlee Waldron and Kyle Waldron; great grandchildren Eden, Shiloh, Hosanna and Bethany; siblings Bill Mize (Susie), Debby Mize-Harms and Stephen Mize; and several beloved nieces and nephews.
Joe was a devoted husband - Bev was the love of his life and best friend - and family man who loved them dearly, but his first love was his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He faithfully followed him for more than 60 years and rarely missed an opportunity to talk with anyone about the Gospel. He was a passionate Kansas City Chiefs fan since their inception, but also had a soft spot for his “hometown” Jags. He loved music, cooking, sunsets and his dog, Franklin.
Joe worked in the foodservice industry for most of his career beginning with Mid Central Seafood in Kansas City that later became Sysco Food Corporation. He held a variety of positions in several locations including Missouri, Kansas, Texas and Florida culminating with a vice-president position here in Jacksonville.
Joe served the Lord in various churches faithfully alongside his wife in nursery and preschool areas and also taught Sunday school classes, served as a deacon and attended a mission trip to Haiti.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at Englewood Christian Church (4316 Barnes Road Jacksonville, FL) on Saturday, January 20. The family will receive visitors beginning at 10:30am followed by the service at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be given to First Coast Women’s Services (www.friendsoffirstcoast.org).
