Joseph served our country in the Korean War, and returned home to start a business and a family. He also served as a Sunday School teacher at 103rd Street Baptist Church.
Joseph was preceded in death by 3 brothers; Harold, Claude, and Charles and 3 sisters; Blanche, Marie and Marry Ann.
He was survived by wife Shirley, Brother Frank, son Joey, Daughter Laura, 8 grandchildren; Devin, Ashley, Hayley, Sage, Corey, Mackenzie, Trinity and Zion, and one great granddaughter, Thea Grace.
To me Papa was a legend, but every word of this is true.
Though he worked hard in his business, he also took the time,
to make sure hearts were turned to Jesus, and one of those was mine.
He took Mom and me to church, with Joey, his dear son.
Drove a church bus and taught Sunday School, but Papa wasn't done.
He taught me how to give, with a little or a lot.
Showed me the best things, you can give, were things that can't be bought.
He made swing sets for the children. Helped me take out the trash.
Dug my septic tank up more than once. Made memories that last.
Sat for weeks with Mama when she was sick. May not have cost a dime,
but it taught me when you love someone what you give them, is your time.
We built a tree house once for Devin. Put a porch beside my home.
Though he loved my brother more than life, I knew I was his own.
He loved enough for both of us. Though the word he'd rarely say.
He showed it with the things he did, and that brings us to today.
We love you Papa. We miss you. We look forward to the place,
God brings us back together, and we see Jesus face to face.
Thank you for taking us to church, for putting in the time,
to turn folks hearts to Jesus, for one of those was mine.
