Leona Spearing Wolfe joined her family members and friends who has passed into eternity on January 30, 2020. She was born in Jacksonville, Florida on January 31, 1921. Her paternal great-grandmother, Hester James McClendon was declared the oldest living resident of Duval County in 1928 by P.G. Gold, historian.
Leona graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1939. She married Ralph J. Wolfe in 1940 and enjoyed a union of 65 years. There were five children: Ralph James Wolfe, Jr., Richard Allen Wolfe, Robert Wayne Wolfe, Nancy Ann Monahan and John Anthony Wolfe. There are six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Upon graduation, she worked for Duval Jewelry’s corporate lawyer and for their credit department.
During World War II Leona worked for civil service army air corps at different posts to be with her husband as long as she could.
In 1967, she went to work for Internal Revenue Service in Jacksonville, Florida. She claimed that she worked for the “White Hat Department”. This was working with Appeals Division that granted conferences to listen to the appeals of taxpayers.
She enjoy her work very much because she enjoyed people and sharing happiness with them. She retired in 1983.
