The Lord called our mom, Lilliam Gonzalez Garcia-Romeu Lazcano, to his heavenly kingdom on July 15th, 2022, at the age of 89. She has joined her father, Dr. Jose Garcia Romeu, her mother Consuelo Gonzalez, an adoring Aunt Graciella Blanco, and her loving grandmother, Mariana Josefa Felina Romeu Yanez who helped raise her. She especially missed her husband, Juan Lazcano, and is now enjoying their union into infinity. Lilliam is survived by her children, Jose Lazcano, Susan Lazcano, Eric Lazcano, the grandchildren whom she adored, Ryan Lazcano, Kristina Lazcano and her great grandchildren Zachary and Lorelei Lazcano.
Lilliam was born June 20th of 1933, in Havana, Cuba, and was a long-time resident of Jacksonville Florida, since 1962. Our mom instilled in us the importance of freedom. She provided us with love, a decent home, education, and the guidance to help us achieve our dreams. She taught us that taking personal responsibility for one’s actions was the key to our future successes.
Lilliam was an only child, but had plenty of cousins, that she loved like siblings: Dr. Delio Garcia-Romeu, Mireya Tomerlin, Dr Jorge Blanco, Victor Blanco, Dr. Albert Garcia-Romeu, and Antonio Garcia-Romeu. The cousins were pranksters, and she told many stories of their escapades. Lilliam enjoyed plants, painting, shopping, watching football (especially great quarterbacks like Mahone) and road trips. Her greatest enjoyment was that of good chocolate and if there was only one available, it was the only thing in life that she would not share. We made sure that she always had enough of her favorite treat on hand. Her passion was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and her excitement would grow when she knew their visit was near.
She was a Medical Transcriptionist and was loved by employers and co-workers, especially Lois Gray whom she shared a great friendship for 40+ years. Mom was loved by everyone that she touched, and is now missed by many, including cousins Samara and Oscarito, God children Jay, Vivian, Felipe and Cathy, and her Cousins Kids as well. She also loved her attentive best friend Dania Vega and Cousins Magdallena and Tony Barrera, whose company she was able to enjoy during her retirement years. Lilliam’s wisdom knew no bounds and her best lessons were taught by example. It is undeniable that her kind, generous and loving influence positively affected those who knew her in her lifetime, and that the passing of her teachings will touch generations of descendants to come. Of all her wonderful traits, her love and generosity will be remembered the most.
Our mom was deeply saddened by the suffering of innocent children afflicted with life threatening conditions. Her favorite charity was St Jude’s Hospital, and we request that any donations be made to them or if you prefer to send flowers, white was her favorite color.
