Lillian Stokes Owens

Mrs. Lillian S. Owens, 88, passed away October 5, 2011, in Jacksonville. She was born and reared in Bronson, FL. After high school, she attended business college, in Atlanta, GA. She retired from the Veterans Administration after many years of service.

Lillian was a loving and devoted wife and mother. She had strong Christian faith and was a life-long Methodist and a member of the Lake Shore United Methodist Church, since the 1970’s. In addition to volunteering with her church, she served with Meals on Wheels, The Lord’s Store and WSCO. She was a board member for many years for the Methodist Children’s Village, a member of Eastern Star and Daughters of the Nile.

Lillian was predeceased by her husband of nearly 50 years, G. Cecil Owens. She is survived by her daughter, Donna Owens Stella (Paul); granddaughter, Katherine; sister-in-law, Margaret Weimer; and a host of nieces and nephews.

The visitation will be held Monday, October 10, 2011, from 6 until 8 PM, at Town and Country Chapel. The funeral service will be Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2011, at 11 AM, also in the chapel. Interment will follow in Riverside Memorial Park. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to Methodist Children’s Village, 7915 Herlong Rd., Jacksonville, FL 32210.
