Linda was born in Rose Hill, North Carolina and graduated from Penderlee High School. She was a payroll clerk for the Atlantic Coastline Railroad in Wilmington, North Carolina. Linda and her family moved to Jacksonville when the railroad transferred south. She retired from the now CSX Railroad after 40+ years of service. Linda was a charter member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. She founded the “Retired Railroad Ladies Club”. In addition, she was an avid gardener with a very green thumb and enjoyed a good card game. Linda was a member of Beta Sigma Phi social sorority.
In 1990, Linda lost her beloved husband, Bill. She is survived by her daughter, Kay and cousins, Mabel Strickland, Betty Dale, Avis Powell and Annette Murray from North Carolina. She also leaves behind her dear friend, Heather Engler of Jacksonville and her “furry” children, Lil Bit, Morris, and adopted grandkitty, Luna.
Visitation will be held from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at Hardage-Giddens Chapel Hills Funeral Home, 850 St. Johns Bluff Road North, Jacksonville, FL 32225. The funeral service will take place at 12:00pm on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 8264 Lone Star Road, Jacksonville, FL 32211. Interment will follow at Chapel Hills Memory Gardens.
