and his wife by her side.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Fernandina Beach. Mrs. Benton was born in Murphy, NC, on November 19, 1921. Her first job was working for Tennessee Valley Authority during WWII. She moved to Knoxville, TN with the love of her life, John T. Benton, where they lived for 38 years. Mr. Benton was on the faculty of the University of Tennessee for 35 yrs. and Mrs. Benton retired from Knox County Procurement in 1986. They moved to Tallahassee, FL for 12 years and then to Fernandina Beach, FL in 1999.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John, (married 57 yrs.) and two sisters, Maggie Hogan and Edith Roper.
She is survived by her son: Robert and his wife Suzanne; brother: John R. Anderson; granddaughters: Michelle Franklin and Adeline Poudrier; and great granddaughters: Katie Franklin and Chloe Poudrier.
Graveside services will be held at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Jacksonville, FL on Thursday, August 21St, at 11 :00.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to First Baptist Church of Fernandina Beach.
