Mamie Dee Massengill Anderson

Mamie Dee Massengill Anderson, born December 5, 1936, was called home by her Lord and Savior on August 17, 2023. She was surrounded by her loving family. Mamie was born in Watauga, Tennessee to Fred and Velcie Massengill, one of nine siblings, and grew up in Bluff City, Tennessee; graduating from Bluff City High School in 1955; working as a telephone operator in Bristol until marrying Bruce R. Anderson, Sr. on May 17, 1958, at North Bristol Baptist Church, and soon thereafter began her life as a Navy wife. In 1964, they moved to Jacksonville Beach, Florida, no longer calling the beautiful mountains of East Tennessee home. The Atlantic Ocean became the place that brought her much peace for 59 years. Mamie touched the lives of family, friends and many strangers as she served the Lord. Her life was a living testimony of her faith and of her love for family. She would quickly tell you that her most prized titles were that of a follower of Jesus Christ, daughter of the King, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by her children, The Honorable Bruce R. Anderson, Jr. (Donna) and Deanna Arend (Jim); her precious grandsons Matthew Arend (Meghan), Clayton Arend (Carly) and Ryan Anderson; her adorable great-granddaughters Rebecca and Hannah Arend, who Mimi loved so much; her brother James R. Massengill (Dolly); her sister JoAnn Bernard; and a big extended family of sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews.

The Anderson family will gather graveside on Monday, August 28 at 11:00 a.m., at East Lawn Memorial Park, 4997 Memorial Boulevard, Kingsport, TN 37664, to celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Florida Baptist Children's Home, 2700 University Boulevard South, Jacksonville, Florida 32207.
