Margaret was born on January 19, 1944, to Robert Edward Goodwin and Laura Marie Lingo Goodwin at St Luke’s Hospital, Jacksonville, Florida. A proud native of the city, Margaret graduated in 1963 from Robert E. Lee High School in Jacksonville and shared her strong love for God and her family with everyone she met. “Marge” served the community for several years after receiving her cosmetology license working at the Village Salon. She loved making everyone look and feel beautiful with weekly hair appointments for the “little ladies” for church or their week ahead or trimming up the men’s hair to look “dapper” as she used to say. She also was a bookkeeper assisting her sister, Jeanne for many years at Regal Distributors.
Marge is survived by her sister, Ruth Hammock (Her children James (Pam) Hammock, Cheryl Hurley, and Charles Hammock). She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Bill Theus (His children Terri (Larry) Kennell, Michael (Debra) Theus, Christopher Theus, Lori Dickerson, and Brian (Louanne) Theus). She has bunches of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews who live in Florida, Georgia, Minnesota, and California.
Marge loved family gatherings where lots of laughter and sharing of the past was always the case. She was always the “one behind the camera” and carried on the tradition until the last few years of displaying pictures on the hutch and tables throughout the house of the individual who had a birthday that month. Everyone will always remember Marge’s laugh and smile. Even in her darkest moments, she always brought a smile to everyone she was with.
Marge is preceded in death by her father Bob, mother Laura, (aka “Momma”), and her sister Jean.
A memorial service for Margaret will be held Wednesday, January 11, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Hardage-Giddens, Riverside Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32205.
