Margaret Norma (DeFee) Wollitz was a remarkable woman who touched the lives of many with her kindness, grace, and unwavering faith. Norma was born on August 28, 1923, to Joseph Henry DeFee and Anna Marie McCollom. Born at a time when doctors made house calls, she entered this world with the help of Dr. Norwood, receiving a doctor’s certificate instead of a traditional birth certificate. From the very beginning, Norma was proud to be a DeFee, a name she carried with pride throughout her life.
A devoted member of the First Coast Baptist Church, Norma believed in and, received Jesus Christ on July the 11, 1948 as her Savior. She lived her faith every day, teaching Sunday school for over 40 years and sharing her love for children with countless young hearts.
Family was of utmost importance to Norma. She was deeply dedicated to her siblings and cherished her role as a sister. On January 25, 1941, she married Robert L. Wollitz, a man who shared her values and work ethic. Married by Pastor Pugh, Robert and Norma spent 68 wonderful years together until Robert’s passing. Their union was a testament to their love and commitment, a partnership truly made by God. She is survived by her children RNJ Wollitz (Barbara), James R Wollitz (LeJean), Mark L Wollitz (Gayle), Daniel F Wollitz (Vicki), Joseph J Wollitz (Kathy), Paul T Wollitz (Pam), multiple grandchildren, great grandchildren, and several siblings.
Norma lived through the Great Depression and WW2 plus many other National conflicts being a proud member of the “Builders” generation. She embodied the resilience and determination of her time, always doing the best she could with what she had. Robert, with his impeccable work ethic, and Norma, with her kindness and grace, complemented each other perfectly.
As a dedicated wife, mother, and Christian, Margaret was a guardian of humanity. She served her siblings, nurtured her children, and was a person of immense compassion and grace. She was proud of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and her love for them was evident in everything she did.
Norma lived her life without complaint, making every day special for those she loved. She touched many lives with her love and compassion, always stepping in where she saw a need without seeking recognition. She was not a glory seeker, but her actions spoke volumes about her character. Today, we remember Margaret Norma (DeFee) Wollitz as a woman of faith, love, and unwavering dedication. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of those she touched, and her memory will forever be cherished.
Rest in peace, Norma. You will be dearly missed.
