

Marie Carmella (Montalto) Battaglia, age 92, passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2012 in Jacksonville, FL. Marie was born November 5, 1919 in Brooklyn, New York. Mary at the age of three moved to Florida. In her spare time Mary spent many hours sewing, crocheting, knitting, drawing, singing, listening to music, doing oil paintings, and many other miscellaneous craft projects. She enjoyed cooking and was well remembered for her large pots of homemade spaghetti sauces, as well as many baked goodies and entertaining friends and relatives. She was a member of the Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church and sang in their choir. She was also a Charter and lifetime member of the Italian American Club. Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years Anthony (Tony) in 1995. Survivors include her sister Georgetta Jones; her loving daughters Nancy Stegonshek(Martin) and Julianne Battaglia-Tillman (Conrad); her three granddaughters Sandy Mallard (Allen), Pamela Blewitt( Sean), and Leah Franklin; four great -grandchildren Brandon Stegonshek, Ashton Mallard, Kyle Mallard, and Logan Bell; numerous nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends and family Monday, July 30, 2012 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Hardage-Giddens Town & Country Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32205. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 am, Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at the Most Holy Redeemer Church, 8523 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32221 with Father Kiaran Medipalli officiating. Entombment will follow the services in Riverside Memorial Park, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, Florida 32205.In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to Community Hospice of NE Florida.
