Marie Lyle Strunk

Marie Lyle Strunk, 94, of Jacksonville, Florida went home to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ, Thursday, November 12, 2015. Marie was born on November 15, 1920 in Big Cove, Alabama in Madison County to Robert T. Lyle and Inis Coldwell Lyle. She went to high school in Big Cove and Gurley, Alabama; after graduation she attended Massey Business College in Chattanooga, Tennessee and where she married Langford Strunk May 16, 1942.

Marie and Langford in 1952 were one of the families of children with intellectual development that founded Pine Castle Center in Jacksonville. Daughter Linda was a student there and then a resident of a group home where she worked in the workshop program. Marie worked in many fund raising programs such as weekend garage sales and a yearly barbeque on the grounds.

Marie was an active member of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE) as a beneficiary of a retired federal employee, Langford. She was a member of the First Alliance Church of Murray Hill in Jacksonville.

Marie was predeceased by her loving husband of 63 years, Langford Strunk on October 14, 2005. Daughters Linda M. Strunk on March 24, 2002 and Bonny S. Oaklund on April 15, 2014.

She is survived by daughters Kathryn S. Looney and her husband Gary and Betty S. Pedigo and her husband Rick; five grandchildren, Robert J. Crawford III, Angela J. Looney, Adam S. Looney and his wife Rose, Rebecca A. Pedigo, Steven R. Pedigo, and ten great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 19, 2015 from 6pm – 8pm at Hardage-Giddens Town & Country Funeral Home 7242 Normandy Blvd. A funeral will be held at 11am on Friday, November 20, 2015 at the same location. Phillip Crump, Senior Associate Pastor of Hillcrest Baptist Church 7673 Collins Rd. will officiate. Interment will follow in Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery.
