Marilyn Frankie Hartsfield Hinson, age 90, passed from this life to return to her Lord and Saviour Jesus and beloved family members on Sunday, December 8, 2019. She was born near Havana, Florida and moved to Jacksonville following graduation from Havana High School in 1947. Marilyn graduated from the St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing. Always a good student, she was salutatorian of both her high school and nursing school graduating classes.
While in nursing school, she met Joseph M. Hinson, Jr. of Jacksonville, recently returned from service in the Navy and the war, and they married on July 4, 1950 upon her graduation from nursing school. Marilyn and Joe lived for many years on the northside in Highlands and eventually moved to Arlington following Joe’s retirement.
Marilyn was known as a devoted wife and mother and a loyal friend. She helped many people throughout her long life without fanfare or recognition, preferring to do these things for love of her friends rather than the recognition she might have received.
She was preceded in death by Joe, her husband of more than 43 years, her mother, Mary Hartsfield, father, Edwin Hartsfield, sister, Mary Edwina McCormick and beloved cousin Donald Jones. She is survived by her children, Patricia (David) McQuaig, Joseph (Leslie) Hinson III, and Donald (Becky) Hinson; grandchildren, Darcy (Bridgette) McQuaig, Robert McQuaig, Joseph (Laurie) Hinson IV, James (Amanda) Hinson, Emily (Jared) Hassler, Mary Hinson, Meghan Fennick, Melissa (Seth) Harac; great-grandchildren, Caitlyn and Julia McQuaig, Reagan Futch, Bethany, Melody, and Joseph Hinson V, Lillian Hassler, Hannah and Logan Harac; niece Gloria (Larry) Strickland; longtime devoted friend Nancy (Dennis) Murphy, and beloved cousins Barbara and Lannis Stephens, and Harold, Johnnie, and Pam Kelly.
Marilyn always tried her best and showed faith and courage in times of trouble.
Pallbearers are Roy Vann, David McQuaig, Gary Doss, Alex Dermond, sons, grandsons and great-grandson. Honorary pallbearers: Lannis Stephens and Harold Kelly. The funeral service will be officiated by long-time family friend Pastor Larry Sweat.
