Marion Leslie Bass

Marion Leslie (Les) Bass, 83, of Jacksonville, Florida, went to be with Jesus on April 14, 2013. Les was born in Greenville, SC on September 7, 1929. He graduated from high school in Greenville and went on to attend art school. After school, Les joined the United States Marine Corps and proudly helped defend his country. Les also worked in the Freight Transportation Industry for over 60 years. Those that knew him knew his Love for God, fishing, family, and his church, Westside Baptist. Les is survived by: his wife of 63 years, Sybil Evans Bass, two Sons, George Bass, (Carla) and David Bass, (Kimberly); Sisters Juanita Graves and Mary Frances Truette; Grandchildren, Windy Bass Hilton, Hannah Bass, Sarah Bass, David Warren and Michael Warren; Great Grandson Zachary Hilton, and other family and many, many friends. He is preceded in death by his brother William (Bill) Bass. Visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday April 17th at Hardage-Giddens Town & Country Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32205. The funeral service will be held on Thursday April 18, 2013 at11:30 a.m. with burial to follow at Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road, at 1:30 p.m. The family would like to thank Community Hospice of Northeast Florida for all the wonderful care and love they gave Les, and have given us during this journey. Les was a man of God, an awesome Dad, role model to many, the best friend a person could have and in his own words, “best fisherman ever”. He is and will continue to be loved and missed!

Les was one of the really good guys. I was one of Les' customers (Duracell) for many years. An outstanding salesman! He also taught me a great deal about fishing. God bless, my friend and R.I.P
