Michael Eugene Henson Sr.

He was born in Saint Joseph, MO on February 1, 1958. Big Mike attended Lafayette High School. He was married to Sharon Jo Henson on March 13, 1978 in Reno, Nevada.

Big Mike dedicated 20 years with distinction as a Boatwain’s Mate in The Battle of Mogadishu in 1993, Desert Storm in 1990 and the Persian Gulf War in 1991. He received a United Nations Medal and Armed forces expeditionary medal, the Southwest Asia service medal and the Navy expeditionary medal. The discipline and patriotism he learned in the Navy never left him, as friends and family will attest.

Big Mike was honored to be able to pursue his life long passion customizing and rebuilding any type of vehicle with four wheels. As a shop manager for 17 years at DG Custom Golf Carts he was blessed with a plethora of co workers who quickly became his family.

Big Mike was survived by his sons Michael E Henson Jr and Johnathan Louis Henson. His 7 grandchildren; Breyana Stilts, Zachary Stilts, Zachariah Henson, Highly Henson, Isaiah Henson, Alexander Henson and Logan Henson. His siblings; Ernie Henson, Tommy Henson, Larry Henson and Mary Henson.

His love and devotion to his grandchildren was first and foremost. He thoroughly enjoyed RV traveling, classic car restoration and trains. Working on cars with his late brother Danny brought Big Mike tremendous joy.

He was preceded in death by his father Leonard Paul Henson and mother Clarabell Henson, two sisters, one brother and beloved daughter Clara Jean Henson.

A celebration of Big Mike’s life will be held on August 25, 2021 from 5-7:00 PM for family and friends. Hardage-Giddens Riverside; 7242 Normandy Boulevard Jacksonville, Florida.

The funeral service will be Thursday August 26, 2021at 8:30 AM; Hardage-Giddens Riverside; 7242 Normandy Boulevard Jacksonville, Florida. Followed by a graveside service at 11:30 AM, Jacksonville National Cemetery; 4083 Lannie Road Jacksonville, Florida.
