

Michael (Mike) Lehr, 65, of Jacksonville, Florida passed away Saturday, November 8, 2014 following a long illness. He was a Master Gardener with the University of Florida, IFAS Extension Service in Duval County for the past 15 years. He loved his volunteer work in the Canning Center, serving many residents of the community. He is survived by his devoted spouse of 41 years, Susan. He is also survived by his loving sisters, Ann Baertlein (Peter), Traci Plunkett (Roger) and his brother, Paul Lehr, and their children, all from Denver. Mike is also survived by many other family members and friends who will miss him dearly. Also near and dear to his heart is his Godson, Connor Sidman, who brought great joy to his life. Mike attended the University of Kansas for four years enjoying classes on all subjects of interest and playing football until a knee injury. After college he worked on the Alaska pipeline and lived there until moving to Jacksonville to marry Susan, the love of his life in 1974. Mike retired from JEA as a supervisor of water production. In addition to work and volunteer activities, Mike loved raising orchids (and all other types of flowering plants), the outdoors, and music (especially rock and roll). His encyclopedic knowledge of musicians and bands was astounding. Memorial services will be conducted by his friend and long-time neighbor, retired Rev. Rodger Murray, and his Pastor, Doug Axtell, at 2:00 PM, Saturday, November 15, at Murray Hill Baptist Church, 4300 Post Street, Jacksonville.
