Nadine Austin Carter, age 85, of Jacksonville, Florida passed away on Sunday, May 28, 2023. Nadine was born on December 22, 1937 in Ludowici, Georgia to Ernest G. Sapp and Elva Scott Sapp. She grew up in the Church of Christ and now attends Franklin Street Baptist Church. Nadine married Daniel W. Carter on December 22, 2017.
Nadine was always very dedicated to anything she put her mind to. She worked as a librarian assistant at Lackawanna Elementary School, then at Beulah Beal Elementary School as a secretary. Furthering her career as a secretary, she started working in the system dispatch with the Jacksonville Electric Authority and retired there after 32 years.
The legacy she leaves behind is her beautiful example of how she always provided warm love and support as a wife, mother, grandmother, and a friend. Even if it was just giving a listening ear, Nadine had a way to make you feel comfortable. Her sense of humor, wit, laughter, and a smile that would brighten your day really stood out. Nadine was known for her amazing memory and unassuming intelligence; her family would often refer to her as "Google" because she knew so much. She would modestly say "No, I'm just like the T.V. Commercial; I know a thing or two because I have seen a thing or two".
Nadine's interest and joy was being with her family and friends. She enjoyed going to large family reunions on her father's side of the family (he was one of fourteen children); this was always the highlight of her life. She will be missed terribly but the memories her family have will live on forever in our hearts.
Nadine is survived by her son, Thomas Austin; daughters, Helen Schmechel (Ben) and Deborah Dobyns (Brian); grandchildren, Brittney Boyce (Bobby), Jennifer Crawford, Shannon McCallum (Chris), and Jack Ervin; and eight great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Daniel W. Carter; and her brothers, Joseph and Clifford Sapp.
A visitation for Nadine will be held Friday, June 9, 2023 from 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM at Hardage-Giddens, Riverside Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32205. A funeral service will follow the visitation at 2:30 PM at the funeral home. A committal service will follow at Riverside Memorial Park. Pastor Terry Gore will serve as officiant of the services.
The family would like to express their thanks and gratitude to their friends for the support and kindness shown to their family.
