Nancy Jane Crews

Janie was a devoted nurse for decades. To Janie nursing wasn’t a job, it was a calling. Whether comforting a patient, mentoring a new resident doctor, or offering support to a worried family her dedication was tireless and empathy unmatched.

Beyond nursing, she found her greatest joy in her family, especially her grandchildren. Whether she was giving them cookies and cokes when she was told to stop, or just watching cartoons or reading to them, her home was their second home.

Janie was preceded in death by her parents, Douglas and Florence Veal and brother, Douglas “Little Duck” Veal, Jr.

She is survived by her husband, Richard Crews (it’s complicated); son, Joseph “Joey” Crews and wife Jade Crews; daughter, Amy Hurst and husband Matthew “Matt” Hurst; daughter Melissa Caylor-Allen and grandchildren, Kent Allen and Ethan Crews.

A visitation for Nancy will be held Monday, September 8, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Hardage-Giddens, Riverside Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32205.
