Paul Daniel Ray was born on January 29, 1952, in Ealing, England. He spent his childhood running around the streets of London before moving to Australia at just 15 years old. It was there that he met the love of his life, Terry, beginning a love story that would span 55 years of marriage.
Paul passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on October 13, 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Ruth Ray; his sister, Denise; and his daughter, Jennifer.
He leaves behind his devoted wife, Terry; his beloved daughters, Deanne (John), Angela (Jeremy), Lynette (Kris), and Kathy; his eight grandchildren, Johnathan, Ethan, Ella, Luke, Abigail, Emily, Penelope, and Lyla; and his sisters, Christine, Pam, Debbie, and Jean.
A talented athlete from an early age, Paul earned his school’s prestigious Victor Ludorum award as its all-around sports champion at just ten years old, even tying the women’s hurdles record. Soccer was a passion from childhood, often playing three matches in a single weekend while growing up in England. He carried that passion to Australia, where he played semi-professionally as a wing forward for Hollandia in Brisbane, the club now known as Lions FC. His love for the game never faded, and he remained an avid soccer fan throughout his life, rarely missing an opportunity to cheer on his beloved Liverpool FC.
He later dedicated his life to providing for his family, working hard as a longshoreman with the Longshoremen Association Local 1593.
Stubborn, silly, and never one to shy away from a crude joke, he had a personality that was impossible to forget. He loved the excitement of casinos, the thrill of dog racing, scratch-off tickets, music from the 1960s, and settling in for a good movie. He found happiness in life’s simple pleasures and was always chasing that next big win.
Above all, he was a husband, father, and grandad who leaves behind a lifetime of stories, laughter, and memories. His family will forever cherish his humor, his unmistakable personality, and the love that connected them.
He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever a part of the stories his family continues to tell. To those who loved him, he was always a winner.
