
Rafaela Valdes Obituary Rafaela Valdes, 83, of Jacksonville Florida, passed away on March 14, 2026 after a valiant fight with cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family in the comfort of her own home.
Born on April 24, 1942, in Santa Clara, Cuba to Paulino Valdes and Luz Troche, Rafaela moved to the United States with her family when she was fourteen years old. Settling in Brooklyn, New York, she quickly adapted to her new surroundings while preserving the rich traditions of her Cuban heritage. Rafaela began her career as a Dental assistant at a local Dental office and, with her winning personality and a knack for quick learning, rapidly worked her way up. Her dedication and hard work led her to eventually pursuing an Associate degree in Dental Hygienic care this turned into a successful career in Brooklyn. Later moving to Atlanta, Georgia with her family, and then finally settling in Jacksonville, Florida.
A devoted Mother, Rafaela is survived by her daughters, Esmeralda Donohue and Xiomara Abadias; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also out lived a daughter Lidia Alago who passed back in 2010.
Beyond these achievements, Rafaela was known for her strong belief in family, tradition, and doing what is right. She was generous to a number charitable organization, helping support those in need. Rafaela’s legacy of commitment to family will continue to inspire all who knew her.
