

Ray was born in Jersey City, New Jersey on February 16, 1943 to Raymond D. Paine, Sr. and Ida Altano Paine. The family later relocated to St. Petersburg, Florida where Ray attended Northeast High School, graduating in 1962. He later joined the US Navy, where he studied electronics and became a ships Navigator. He served his country proudly for 29 years before his naval retirement. After his Navy service was completed, to keep himself busy, he attended classes in locksmithing and became a locksmith, an occupation that he undertook for several years. He later went on, with his wife Marge, to start up a small business in the mail preparation industry. It is when his wife Marge retired from the US Postal Service that he finally went into full retirement mode, after which time they went on to amass 27 cruises together.
Everyone that knew Ray, knew that he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He cherished the family and the life he built with his wife Marge immensely. His sense of humor was enormous and infectious. He was an avid Sci-Fi fan, loving Star Trek and Quantum Leap. His hobbies also included coin collecting. He loved going to movies and true to his Italian roots, loved dining out, Carrabba's being his favorite. He was very fond of the music from the 50's and 60's eras. He was an active member of the DAV (Disabled American Veterans) Jacksonville, Unit 1.
He was predeceased in this life by his parents Raymond D., Sr. and Ida Altano Paine, his wife and soulmate, Marjorie A. Paine and a grandson David Piercy.
He leaves to mourn his passing 7 children: Robert "Bob" L. Raymond Jr. (Debbie), William "Bill" A. Raymond (Pat), Scott C. Raymond, Marjorie L. Snyder (Donald), Rikki K. Lashley (Daniel), Raymond D. Paine, III and Elizabeth Carney. 11 grandchildren: Casey Raymond (Andrea), Miranda Raymond, Michelle Jones (Sheldon), Michael Raymond, Tim Primmer-Mears (Chris), Jennifer "Jen" Johnson (Derek), Jessica Mears, Meagan Dodge (Doug), Kimberly Harris (Jordan) and Allyssa Carney. 11 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, his brother and sister-in-law Ralph and Beverly Paine, as well as a host of extended family and friends.
Visitation will be held at 10:00 - 11:00am on Tuesday January 5, 2021 at Hardage-Giddens Chapel Hills Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 11:00am at the funeral home. A procession with lead us to his interment and full military honors at 1:30pm on Tuesday January 5, 2021 at Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, Florida 32218.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the local Jacksonville DAV Chapter 1, and that masks be worn throughout all services.
