Reuben L. Sapp Sr. was born May 9, 1932 to the late Walter and Sadie Cornelia (Peters) Sapp. He was the 12th child out of 13. At the age of 16 he went and served in the Branch of the Army. Reuben was the youngest of his brothers to serve in the military. While he was stationed at Fort Benning, GA he met and married Rosa Lee Jones of Phoenix City, AL on February 1, 1955. This union was blessed with 4 children, 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. During his time in the military the family lived in Stuttgart, Germany and Philadelphia, PA.
In 1961 Reuben retired from the military and moved to Yonkers, NY. Reuben worked as a chef at Hollback’s 44 Club and a cook at Sapp & Son’s. He worked for the Yonkers Board of Education as a head custodian for over 20 years before retiring in 1996. Upon retiring Reuben and Rose settled in Jacksonville, Florida.
The family will receive friends on Friday, December 20, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Hardage-Giddens Riverside Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Boulevard, Jacksonville, FL 32205. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2019 at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Entombment will follow at Riverside Memorial Park.
