

Richard D. Barker, Jr., born March 14, 1933 of Jacksonville, Florida passed peacefully July 21, 2023. He is preceded by his parents, Richard D. Barker, Sr. and Alene R. Barker; wife Claudette C. Barker; and sister Sally McKeithen. He is survived by his children J. Michael Barker (Sue), Richard D. Barker, III (Barbara), and Yvonne G. Bryan (Tom); grandchildren Richard D. Barker IV, Brian T. Barker, Claudette P. Bryan, Alexander W. Bryan II, Madeleine E. Barker, and J. Michael Barker, Jr.; sister Mary Elizabeth McMahon (Pat); nieces Valerie E. Watts and Jaja Martin; and nephews Robert Watts and David Watts.
Born in Jacksonville, Florida, Dick Barker was an honors graduate of both Robert E. Lee High School and the University of Florida. He served in the US Navy Reserves from 1954 until retiring as a Commander in 1970. His career in real estate included operating his firm, Richard D. Barker, Inc. Realtors. He served as President of both the Jacksonville Association of Realtors and the Jacksonville Multiple Listing Service. His gentlemanly nature, professionalism, creativity, and integrity were the hallmarks of his successful real estate career.
Dick was a dedicated family man always available to support, teach, and provide experiences to his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed traveling and spending time with his wife Claudette at their mountain home. Always active, he enjoyed sailing, running, hiking, tennis, flying, diving, and in later years croquette with his friends at the Florida Yacht Club. He served as a mentor to local youth, and supported the Jacksonville Symphony, St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Meninak, and several animal shelters. His quiet strength will be missed.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 2nd, 2023 at 1:00 PM at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 4129 Oxford Avenue, Jacksonville, Florida 32210. The family will then receive friends at a celebration of life following the memorial service at The Florida Yacht Club, 5210 Yacht Club Road, Jacksonville, Florida 32210. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mark's Episcopal Church.
