I share your sadness with the loss of my friend, Sgt Dougher.  He and I worked together while stationed overseas, both at the 556th Medical Company and later at 56th Medical Battalion headquarters.   At 556th, Sgt Dougher became First Sergeant while I was the company clerk. He epitomized the image of a top NCO and was both respected and an inspiration to others in the battalion. Good soldiers tried to emulate him.  Fondly, I recall when my wife was to arrive in Germany – a momentous occasion for a young PFC and newlyweds.  Since we worked closely in the orderly room, he learned that I had no transportation and promptly volunteered to help.  During our round trip to the airport, we discussed the fact that I had planned for every contingency, (pots, pans, dishes, cups, etc.), but failed to do any real grocery shopping…and the next day was thanksgiving.  The following day, he went to the unit mess hall and prepared two trays with the traditional thanksgiving fixings and delivered them to us at our apartment in town.  He was extremely modest and barely stayed long enough for us to say thank you.  I believed that to be his nature.  Regrettably, due to our respective locations, (Florida - Pennsylvania), I only had the privilege to visit with him one time, but have reflected on our association many times over the years.  Truly, I am enriched having known Richard L. Dougher.

Dick gave me away at my wedding with Dot as Matron of Honor...20 years ago...I think of all the family a lot on a daily bases and miss seeing each and everyone of you plus the ones I haven't met.  I hope Peace will come to you all....Love you guys.

I have a cherished memory of an afternoon when me,  my daughter (4 months at the time)and Mr D sat in the living room at their house while I was waiting on Mel. He played with Sasha forever and was so sweet!! That was 22 years ago. He has always loved the little ones and they loved him right back. My heart goes out to this loving family!! Love you all dearly!!
