My deepest condolences to your family. Growing up I was your neighbor in Fineview and loved playing with Rick, Ginny and Cindy. Your parents were wonderful people who always welcome me and the other neighborhood kids to go swimming and play at the house. I remember a lot of super nice things including going to the drive-in with the fichter's. There was always enough room to another child to go along as well as sleep over night. I was deeply saddened to hear of Rick's passing. I had the privilege of working with Rick on the Flat Sorters @ the USPS. He had a special natural ability to make people laugh and feel comfortable. He always seemed to enjoy talking with me about the PITTSBURGH STEELERS. I in turn bent his ear over Professional Tennis.(We were both equally incapable in the other's area of expertise). We had a great deal of fun in these exchanges. His pronunciation of Rafael Nadal still makes me smile. To his family, Thank You for sharing him with the rest of us. I was about 6yrs old when my sister Diane first starting dating Rick. He has been apart of my life for almost 40 yrs! He WAS a big brother to me. Rick was always cool about taking my husband George (he's from michigan) around pitttsburgh and showing him around. That was Ricks way. We will miss him

When Mike and Patty were married they brought the Fichter family into our lives.  And it has, until now, brightened our lives considerably.  Rick was the leader of the gang followed by his Dad and Mom.  The rest of us just kind of hung around waiting to see what Rick was up to.  He was always the life of the party when we were lucky enough to be a part of the party.  IWe honestly think he could have performed on stage.  He was that kind of guy.  We now join the rest of you who will forever remember Rick.  Family loved him dearly.  He commanded that love with his good heart and personality.  May God rest his soul and may God help us all to not forget but learn to live without him.

I met Rick when I was 8 or 9 years old. He was one of my brothers best friends. Always remember Rick, Newt and Al being at my house. Being 8 yrs younger than my brother I always thought my brother and his friends were a bunch of weirdos! We all grew up, got married, had families. Years later as I grew up I found out first hand that these "weirdos" were really awesome  people.  I reconnected with Rick years later on Facebook. He was the one person I could always count on texting me about the Steelers and the Pens! Thanks for all the laughs Rick, you will be missed. My condolences to the Diane and the entire Fichter family. Rick is an old friend from Pittsburgh and we recently reconnected via Facebook earlier this year. 
We had a chance to catch up on old friends, the Steelers, Pens Stanley Cup run, share a few laughs and memories.  We planned to get together this summer with a few other old friends. I was shocked to hear of his passing, I know God will take care of him.  I will keep him in my thoughts and prayers, and never forget him.

I thank God for the imprint of Rick's voice in my head!  I'll miss him, but will be forever grateful for his humor, love of family,  tremendous service to our country and  self-effacing, but extremely effective leadership style.  Heaven's gain is our loss.
