

Robert Perry Sweat, 78, of Jacksonville, Florida passed away on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 after a brief illness. He was born in Jacksonville, Florida on January 26, 1940, to the late Alpha Williams Sweat and Joseph Sweat. Robert graduated from Paxon High School (1958) and served in the United State Air Force, as mechanical flight crew. He attended Florida Junior College and University of North Florida. He was married to Rita Traynor, from Omaha, NE for 54 years.
Robert was a beloved member of the community, but his passion for playing sports from childhood until his last days could not be denied. As an athlete himself, to later in his life helping coach his daughter’s cross country team to teaching tennis programs for children at Boone Park. As an advocate for children to play tennis, he volunteered his time weekly to ensure any child that wanted to learn to play tennis could for over 30 years.
Robert is survived by his loving wife Rita Sweat; his daughter Vicki Harris (Rick); and his beloved granddaughter, Kayla Petrey all of Jacksonville, FL. He is also survived by one sister Shirley Tamual Hunsicker (Dennis) of Jacksonville, FL.
A viewing will be held at Hardage Giddens Riverside Memorial Park and Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 . The funeral will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday November 1, 2018 at the funeral home, with the burial immediately following at the Jacksonville National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the United States Tennis Association USTA.
