Rubin "R.P." Phelix Wright, age 83, of Jacksonville, Florida passed away on Friday, August 18, 2023. R.P. was born on June 22, 1940 in Tabor City, NC to Rufus Wright and Gertha "Gerthie" Watts Wright. R.P. married the love of his life, Merlie Ann (Porter) Wright on January 27, 1965. He was a welder for Load King for 40 years. He loved spending time with his family and friends, going fishing, tinkering with cars, and playing cars.
R.P. is survived by his wife, Merlie Wright; son, Reuben Alexander Wright; and one sister, Pearl Wright Milligan. He is preceded in death by his parents, Rufus and Gertha Wright; one son, Anthony Drew Wright; brothers William Eugene Wright, Lonnie Dolphus Wright; and sisters Marie W. Willis, Ina W. Stewart, and Hazel W. Gore.
A visitation for R.P. will be held Thursday, August 24, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Hardage-Giddens, Riverside Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Boulevard, Jacksonville, FL 32205. A funeral service will follow at noon at the funeral home. A committal service will follow at Riverside Memorial Park.
