
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Russell Warren Cowles. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. After a courageous battle with Stage IV Esophageal Cancer, diagnosed in September 2025, he passed away peacefully at the age of 57 on April 6, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He navigated this illness with unwavering strength, exceptional resilience and grace.
Born on October 9, 1968, in Jacksonville, Florida, Russell's journey through life was marked by deep love, enduring strength, and unyielding devotion to his family and friends. Russell was the cherished son of Sharon & Warren Cowles, who predeceased him along with his brother Ward Cowles. His legacy lives on through his devoted wife Courtney, his daughters, Danielle and Samantha, his grandchildren, Oliver and Cameron, his sister, Adria and many loving family members and friends who cherished him dearly.
Educated at Englewood High School, Russell embarked on a career that showcased his dedication and expertise. He spent many years as the Head of Maintenance at Vistakon, a division of Johnson and Johnson, where his commitment to excellence was unparalleled. Later, as a senior estimator at Duval Fixtures, Russell's passion for his work was evident, and he took great pride in mentoring his daughter, Samantha, ensuring his professional legacy would continue in capable hands.
Russell's life was a testament to the power of love. For thirty-three extraordinary years, he was married to Patrisha Cowles, with whom he shared a profound and beautiful love. Together, they raised two wonderful daughters, Danielle Blevins and Samantha Cowles. Together they created a home filled with love, laughter and support. Although Patrisha was taken far too soon, Russell's strength as a father remained unwavering, and continued to be the rock our family needed, he cherished his family above all else.
In the years following Patrisha's passing, Russell was blessed to find love once more with Courtney Bend, who became his devoted wife, Courtney Cowles. Their relationship, blossoming from a supportive friendship into a beautiful romance, brought immense joy and happiness to Russell's life. Courtney stood steadfast by his side during his battle with cancer, exemplifying unwavering love and companionship.
Beyond his professional life, Russell was a man of diverse passions. A dedicated movie buff and music lover, he embraced the great outdoors with enthusiasm. Whether fishing, hunting, golfing, bowling, or playing poker, Russell's competitive spirit was undeniable. His love for sports extended to coaching his daughters' softball teams, where some of his happiest moments were spent.
Russell was a remarkable man, known for his quick wit and intelligent humor. His humor brought joy and his presence brought calm to those around him. He was the person to call when a problem seemed insurmountable. His dependability and fierce, unconditional love made him a rock for his loved ones.
A service to celebrate Russell's life will be held on Friday, April 17, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Chapel Hills Memory Gardens, located at 850 St. Johns Bluff Rd. N, Jacksonville, FL 32225. Following the service there will be a celebration of life and lunch gathering at 5526 Ghormley Rd. Jacksonville, FL 32277.
