

Salvatore "Sam" R. DelVecchio "passed out of the picture" on Friday July 26th at his home in Jacksonville, Florida. Sam was born in Rochester, New York to Cresenzo and Annina DelVecchio on January 28, 1931. He was the first of his siblings born in the United States to proud Italian immigrant parents. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1946 where he went on to serve honorably over the next 27 years. During his Naval Service, he was a "tin can" sailor. Sam's tours included the USS New Jersey, USS Sampson and USS Albany which included serving with distinction and Valor during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Following retirement from the US Navy, Sam completed his Bachelors in Business and went on to serve as the manager of the enlisted club's in the local Jacksonville area. Where he retired a second time. During his retirement years, he was an active member of the American Legion Lakeshore Post 137 and enjoyed his time with family and friends. He is preceded in death by his sister Mary, and his brothers Tony and Del. He is survived by his sisters Connie and Tina as well as daughters Kim, Mary and Christina. He is survived by nine grandchildren. He will be sorely missed.

Arrangements under the care of Hardage-Giddens Town & Country Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32205. The family will receive the public for visitation Friday, August 2, 2013 from 10:00 - 11:00 am. Funeral service will be in the chapel of Town & Country at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Rd., Jacksonville, FL 32218 at 2:00 pm
