September 6, 1949 – February 20, 2026
Sam Cahoon, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, Marine, and lifelong outdoorsman has hung up his hat to be with the Lord.
He was born in Atlanta, Georgia to parents Winn and Betty Cahoon. As a young man, he proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. From Asia to the Caribbean, to back home again, he carried with him the values of honor, courage, and fidelity.
For more than three decades he worked for Southern Bell, BellSouth, and AT&T. While the name of the company may have changed, his dedication to the job and work was steadfast, and it allowed this community to remain connected through many technological changes.
From the sea to the sky his affection for the outdoors was boundless. He learned to fly planes, hunted the woods of his native Georgia, and caught more fish and bigger fish than most tall tales describe. A perfect day would wrap up around a fire, and in his wife’s arms.
For fifty-four years he was married to the love of his life Cindy. Together the two of them made a life in Jacksonville, Florida. They raised three beautiful daughters and were blessed with five grandchildren. His fondness for Westerns and fishing were no match for the love and pride he had in his family.
He was a man of quiet strength, wit and humor, and a deep loyalty to those around him.
He is survived by his wife Cindy; sister Teresa; daughters Chanda, Alicia, Brittany; sons-in-law Mark, Ryan, and John; and grandchildren Doria, Brayden, Mason, August, and June.
A committal service will be held at Hardage-Giddens Riverside Funeral Home & Riverside Memorial Park, located at 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32205, United States. The service is scheduled for February 24, 2026, from 11:00 am to 11:30 am.
