Sayuri DiMaio, age 94, of Fleming Island, Florida passed away on Friday, February 23, 2024 at Life Care Center of Orange Park. She is preceded in death by her husband of 31 years, Dominic Lawrence DiMaio, and her stepdaughter Sandra DiMaio-Leach. She is survived by her stepsons Tony DiMaio and Frank DiMaio, her sister Junko and her son-in-law Alan DiMaio-Leach.
Sayuri was born in Naha, Okinawa, Japan on April 22, 1929, the daughter of Tasaku and Toku Shimada. She was blessed with three sisters and a brother.
She was married in Okinawa to Dominic DiMaio in 1970. Her hobbies were jigsaw puzzles, Korean movies set in the Middle Ages, and Japanese calligraphy. She was an accomplished seamstress with her own dress shop in Okinawa. Religion and faith were also very important to Sayuri, a Lutheran/Methodist. When she was able, she attended church regularly as well as Bible studies organized by her church, surrounded by her dearest friends.
