Sheila was born in Jackson, Michigan, and in 1959 graduated from Grosse Pointe High School in Detroit. She married in 1964 and moved to Florida in 1969. After her divorce in 1970, she began working as a bookkeeper for a television station in Daytona Beach for almost 20 years. She then moved to San Diego where she worked for a real estate development firm for 13 years before moving back to Florida to be with her daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren in 2002. She was a member of the Arlington Newcomers Club, and enjoyed playing canasta every Tuesday with her friends. She adored children and animals, and had a tremendous sense of fun. She was fiercely independent, had a generous heart, and kept a meticulous home. Sheila loved reading, traveling, shopping, crafting, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Sheila Sloan is survived by her sister, Sally Nadeau of Tucson, AZ; her brother, Jack Chesman of Monroe, MI; her sister, Susan Griffin of San Diego, CA; and her daughter, Julie Sloan Brannon, son-in-law, Todd Brannon, and her three very-much-loved grandchildren: Chris Brannon, Jonathan Brannon, and Annalivia Brannon, all of Jacksonville, FL.
We would like to acknowledge the compassion and care given to Sheila during her illness by Dr. Sejal S. Kuthiala and the wonderful nurses at Cancer Specialists of North Florida, and for the incredible care from Community Hospice at the end of her life. Our endless gratitude to all of you in supporting her on this long, difficult journey. She faced it with astonishing courage and a bottomless well of hope, and when no more progress could be made she faced her end with grace and strength. She was deeply loved and will be missed every day.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Sheila's honor to Community Hospice, the American Cancer Society, or the Jacksonville Humane Society.
