

Shirley was born on October, 1, 1928, in Jacksonville, Florida, to Arthur Leroy and Eunice Lee Brinson. She was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School. Shirley was devoted to her children and grandchildren. She loved to read, do puzzle books, and read the newspaper daily.
Early in her career she worked as a clerk in the Sheriff's Office. She then worked as a clerk and then a bookkeeper in Oceanway Junior High School then Highlands Middle School until her retirement at age 79.
She is predeceased by her parents, Arthur and Eunice Brinson; three brothers, Earl Brinson, W.D. Brinson, and Herman Brinson; and a granddaughter Delaney Gurgel. She is survived by her children, Gail Floyd, Raymond Smith, and Brenda Dewitt (David); grandchildren, Brittany Bell (Mac), Jason Hall, and Aiden Dewitt (Harlie); great grandchildren, Oscar Bell, Henry Bell, Dustin Hall, Kaden Hall, Will Hall, Jeremiah Bennett, and Jace Dewitt, all of Jacksonville, Florida; and many nieces and nephews.
We would like to thank the Baptist Hospital Downtown Emergency Room, Adult Tower, and the Douglas Center for Caring for their excellent care of our mother during her short illness.
A visitation for Shirley will be held Monday, September 8, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Hardage-Giddens, Riverside Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32205. A funeral service will occur Monday, September 8, 2025 at 12:00 PM, a committal service will immediately follow the funeral service at Riverside Memorial Park.
